I had the Thermador cooktop in my last house and loved it so much I went to buy the professional version but was disappointed to discover it only had huge burners, and I use lots of little pans, so I stayed with the cooktop which is half the price and far more flexible.

I don't have the ranges, I have the Thermador 36' cooktop with the simmer burners which I LOVE. That should not happen, but it does so just watch for it. Back to the lemon seeds which is a problem even without the dishwasher getting hit with electricity, no idea how they get in there. However, the later problem may be electrical, I think the dishwasher got hit in a big electrical storm because it acts funny now, like it's hard drive is failing. The only drawback is the dishwasher somehow gets little tiny food items like lemon seeds stuck in the sprayer that sprays the second drawer and that of course keeps things from getting clean, and it struggles with dishwasher pods, never fully getting the soap off so a second rinse cycle is needed. I have the Bosch Dishwasher you are looking at, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the silverware drawer. I've rarely heard of such problems with free-standing ranges. Other instances could be caused by improper installation, particularly when wall ovens are involved since the unit is installed into a wall cavity. At least one brand had the overheating problem caused by the cooling blower being of insufficient capacity. Overheating also, of course, should not occur under normal usage and cleaning conditions. The electrical problems involve overheating in cases of electronic controls not being properly cooled, causing a thermal safety fuse to blow. The reports you've run across regarding damage to the finish after self-cleaning likely involved a factory flaw on the finish and should not occur as a matter of normal course. Technically you can use oven cleaner, but a self-clean cycle should *never* be run again. The reason chemical cleaners are not to be used on self-cleaners is that it's largely impossible to fully rinse away the cleaner, and the chemical residue can generate noxious/toxic fumes when a high-temp self-clean cycle is next run (the temp gets over 900F). Oven cleaners will not physically damage the interior finish of a self-cleaning unit, which is a normal porcelain finish like manual-clean ovens.
